Decisions and Babies

I've been pondering over this post for a few days now, trying to decide where to go with the Year of Projects. I'm not really sure that 'committing' myself to set projects for a whole year suits the way that I am. I quite like to dip my toes in and out of projects and I'm finding 'The List' is playing on my mind a little more than I would like it too. So, I think the best thing for me to do is carry on as I was before 'The List' and relieve myself of the stress it's causing me. Phew, there I've done it - and already I feel so much better :)

On a similar note, I've also tidied up my Ravelry Projects Page and removed a few things here and there. It's all feeling very cathartic here I tell you!

The One a Day Project is going well, early days I know, but so far I've produced one block a day and I'm still enjoying the pattern which is good! I treated myself yesterday and as I had completed my block AND another stripe on the Ripple, I cast on a Honey Cowl. I'm using Debbie Bliss Andes and so far, so good, no eye flair up. BUT, here's the exciting bit. I have finally found a hexagon pattern I love. I've tried the Hexagon Tutorial from Attic24 and I tried The Apairy Puff but neither really got me all excited. You, know, that all consuming must do more excitement you get when you have found the right project, surely it's not just me that gets that? So here are my Baby Hexagons......

Oh they are so cute! So quick too - 10 minutes from start to end, including sewing in the ends. Perfect. The pattern is from Bunny Mummy and you can find her little tutorial here. I'm using Rowan Belle Organic DK, which is just the most lovely yarn and a 4mm hook. I'm going to be whip stitching them together and I'll just keep going until I've used up all seven balls.

Enjoy the rest of your weekend and I hope we don't all get blown away!

  1. I don't like committing myself to anything long term either. My moods come and go with crafting so never know what I'll be up to next. I do like the idea of one a day. Certainly we all have time for a little crafting each day something quick and simple but with a sense of accomplishment. Best wishes, Tammy

  2. Sorry to losing your participation but I understand. I do mine to accommodate for my flitty nature in wanting to do something new :P That, and school, are probably the main reasons my list is relatively small (then I can add to it freely).

Thanks for the link to the hex's!

  4. Pretty little Hexagons. I love Bunny Mummy's colourful hexagons too. I am so divergent I am having great trouble with one a day, never mind setting my projects for a year! It is a miracle how I manage to raise two children honestly :)

  5. I have a very small list of things that I would realistically like to make, some are pretty small..so thats why I am happy to participate in YoP.

Thing is you do whatever makes your crafting fun for you :)

Those little hexagons are cute, when I have finished my One A Day project...it may be something I will experiment with :)

  6. Plans and lists work really well for some people and not at all for other people. I think it's great that you've released yourself from a way of crafting that doesn't work for you!

  7. I have an idea in my head of the the things I'd like to crochet over the next few months/year, but I know that I'm bound to get all excited about other new ideas along the way, so I don't think I'd enjoy feeling tied down to a list like that! Loving the hexagons - I'm looking forward to seeing that come together :)

  8. Mini is always cute. How will you do the edges since the hexagons won't line up to make straight edges? I've been looking at projects of Attic 24's pattern on Ravelry to get some future inspiration.

  9. Also, I'm glad I'm not the only one who doesn't feel 100% committed to the YOP set list. I've been throwing in little projects of things I really need.

  10. Love the colors. I don't think the purpose of YOP was to drive you crazy, so it is good that you've let it go so you can feel more free to work on projects of your choosing!

  11. Thank you for posting the link to the mini hexagons. They are adorable. I followed the tutorial and actually managed to make one properly. I am addicted already and am thinking about adding another One-a-Day project with the mimi cuties. :)

  12. I join you in keeping my creative mind free in spinning in any direction! The One-a-day project is of course an exception haha. I'm curious how far everyone is, tomorrow we will see, tuesday's tallies!

  13. I don't blame you from moving on from The List - one of the reasons I didn't join the year of projects was because I know that I would feel restricted (even if it was only by myself). Love the hexagons, so cute :)

  14. I agree, got to keep the creative musings free and unrestricted, I like having lots on the go, and working on what I feel like on the day. The hexagons look great! Lovely colours ( wonders of to look at bunny mummy's blog)
